38 NAFEZA: THE NEWEGYPTIAN PLATFORM TO FACILITATE TRADE Egypt as the 2nd biggest import actor in Africa and biggest importer, in a will to create a global and regional logistic hub, created a new system of facilitation that will significatively enhance the treatment and reduce costs of merchandise exchanges. The implementation of this new online system called Nafeza or literally “the window” in Arabic, started on 1st of October 2021. The aim was to modernize and facilitate Customs for Egyptians and foreign importers and exporters but also bring Egyptian Customs Authority in linewith international standards of trade procedures and customs requirements regarding clearance of goods. How does the system work? • importers must submit all the documentation and transaction data on the e-portal ( https://www.nafeza.gov.eg/en ) • when successfully submitted, the importer receive a unique shipment identification number (ACID) within 48hours • both the importer and exporter will receive the notification with this code • Exporter electronically transmit shipment documentation and data, assuring ACID is referred to on all documentation. • Importer certifies and recognizes the correctness of the data given by the exporter • The Vessel can depart from the exporting country • Importer pays fees and taxes • Vessel arrives at the port in Egypt and shipment is offloaded • Clearance of the shipment Read more: https://www.trade.gov/market-intelligence/egypts-new-customs-facilitation- system-nafeza
