9 Global Gateway Europe At the end of 2021, the European Commission and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy launched the Global Gateway: a new European strategy to boost smart, clean, and secure investments in the digital, energy, and transport sectors and to strengthen health, education, and research systems across the world. Furthermore, does it aim to connect goods, people, and services around the world in a sustainable way. The focus of the global initiative lays on physical infrastructure, such as fibre optic cables, transport corridors, and clean power transmission lines. Some of the key elements that are incorporated are: democratic values and high standards, good governance and transparency, equal partnerships, green and clean, and security focused. The emergence of Covid-19 has proven to show how interconnected the world is, which is why the EU wanted to involve actors on a global level. By investing in key sectors around the globe and supporting private investments, the EU is looking to build strong connections without dependency on one another. Moreover, with the Global Gateway the EU wants to offer an alternative to China’s Belt and Road Initiative – the massive, geopolitically influential network of infrastructure and transport investments that Beijing uses to link its exporters to Western markets. The main goal of the new European strategy is to mobilize around €300 billion in investments between the years of 2021 and 2027 to underpin a lasting and sustainable global recovery. The innovative strategy will be delivered through a Team Europe approach, which brings together the EU institutions, the 27 EUMember States, and European financial and development institutions, such as the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), along with the private sector and civil society. The first targets of this investment will be Europe’s neighbouring countries and will create sustainable links between the EU and those countries without creating an unsustainable level of debt. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that no partner will be excluded. However, only smart investments, the ones that respect the highest social and environmental standards will be considered and supported.

10 The King and Queen of Belgium visit Oman and the UAE From the 2nd unti l the 5th of February 2022 , the King of Belgium; King Philippe, accompanied by his wife; Queen Mathilde, and the official Belgian delegat ion, vi s i ted both the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates. F i r s t l y , t he roya l couple visited Oman, where they held stops in the cities of Muscat and Duqm. This visit was focused on the renewable energy transition happening i n Oman and on promoting Belgian-Omani economic and investment cooperation, particularly in the area of green and clean energy. It was the first visit outside of Europe for the Belgian King since the beginning of the Corona pandemic. King Philippe was also the first European leader to be received by the Sultan of Oman; Sultan Haitham. One of the first activities in Oman included the inauguration of the Port of Duqm, which was completed in collaboration with the Port of Antwerp. The new port was built to accommodate imports and exports to and from Oman to an ever growing international market. Another aim of the “Hyport Duqm” project is to produce green hydrogen, which is implemented by Oker in partnershipwith the Belgian company DEME (a member of the Board of Directors of the ABLCC). In addition, a second visit was made to Hyport, a newly built power plant capable of producing hydrogen; a valid, sustainable, and green alternative to traditional energy sources. The Port of Duqm and Hyport are both projects aiming to transform the Duqm Special Economic Zone into a global center for the production of green and environmentally friendly hydrogen. After Oman, the Belgian royalties and delegation visited the United Arab Emirates. One of their stops there was the Belgian pavilion at World Expo in Dubai. 11 Africa & Europe On 17 and 18 February 2022, the heads of state/government of the member states of the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) came together for the 6th EU-AU Summit. The meetingwas co-chaired by the President of the European Council; Charles Michel, and the President of Senegal and the Chairperson of the AU; Macky Sall. I n t h i s me e t i ng , African and European leaders agreed on a Joint Vision for a renewed partnership, aimed to be achieved a r ound t he yea r 2030. The general cornerstones of this renewed partnership i nclude sol idar i ty , s e c u r i t y , p e a c e , sustained economic development , and prosperity for both the citizens of the African and European Union. More specifically this will involve: • An Africa-Europe investment package of €150 billion over the next 7 years, whichwill help build more diversified, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient economies. • The provision of 450 million vaccine doses to Africa by mid-2022, which is to ensure fair and equitable access to vaccines. • Enhanced peace and security cooperation. • An enhanced and reciprocated migration and mobility partnership, done through joint action and capacity-building. • A commitment to multilateralism. Even though the Joint Vision represents an ambitious plan and contains some impressive commitments, many believe that it falls short on specific African demands relating to gas and fossil fuels, the waiving of intellectual property rights on Covid-19 vaccines, the reallocation of IMF special drawing rights (SDRs), and migration. 12 EU & GCC: to enhance and deepen their relationship On Monday 21 February 2022, the foreign ministers from EU member states, headed by the High Representative of the EU; Josep Borrell, and their counterparts from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, chaired by the Saudi Foreign Minister; Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, came together in a Joint Council and Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels. Here the GCC and the EU called for closer cooperation and underlined the importance of strengthening their relations. In a statement Borell said: “We are the first investor in the region and second trade partner, but politically we are not on the same level. Our relations have to be enhanced and I think this is the good moment to do so. This is going to be the first step for stronger and deeper relations.” During the Council, the EU and GCC ministers stressed the importance of continuing to strengthen the relations between both sides. In light of recent regional challenges, the ministers saw it necessary to create a strong and effective base for regional and international security and stability. In particular, they agreed on the importance of strengthening GCC-EU relations in a wide range of areas, including political dialogue, regional security, counterterrorism, trade and investment, energy, climate change, education, health, cybersecurity, and strengthening cooperation in international forums. Moreover, several humanitarian issues, such as the situation in Yemen, the ongoing war in Syria, and the crises in Afghanistan and Lebanon, were discussed. Finally, the ministers agreed to hold their next meeting in 2023 in the GCC region. 15 On 9 November 2021, the Arab-BelgianLuxembourg Chamber of Commerce, in close collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Brussels organized a high-level webinar called: “Saudi Arabia, A Land of Infinite Opportunities and Bold Initiatives”. Thi s webinar represented a unique opportunity for participants to discover the Saudi market and its long-term vision as a strategic partner in the Arab World. It enabled more than 130 participants - be they companies, associations, or businessmen – to get to know more about key investment sectors and opportunities in the Kingdom. But why focus on Saudi Arabia? As a member of the G20, the Gul f Cooperation Council, and countless of other important Union’s, Saudi Arabia is undeniably a partner to be cherished. Furthermore, is the Saudi Kingdom one of the fastest growing economies in the world, therefore offering infinite business opportunities and many bold initiatives for investors. By the end of this year, Saudi Arabia’s GDP is expected to reach 790 billion USD and its economy is expected to expand 7.7 per cent now the coronavirus-related uncertainty that marked the last two years recedes. Even more impressive is the oil sector’s GDP, which is projected to expand 15.5 per cent a year starting from 2022. However, its position among the world’s largest exporters of oil and gas has tended to overshadow the Kingdom’s increasingly diversified economic sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, energy, petrochemicals, logistics, and education to only name a few of them. Consequently, there is no need to feel that the Saudi Kingdom should be considered the WEBINAR | “Saudi Arabia, A Land of Infinite Opportunities and Bold Initiatives” 9 November 2021

16 exclusive playground of large multinationals active in the oil sector. To the contrary, Belgian and Luxembourg SMEs should feel at ease in joining the game. Last but not least, is the country making a giant leap with the digitalization of its public services and the launch of gigantic infrastructure projects. This transformation is part of the “Saudi Vision 2030”-roadmap, a social and economic development plan which aims to challenge the foundations of the traditional Saudi economy and pushes investment in innovative sectors. The Saudi market is therefore, for the first time in its history, experiencing a period of unprecedented socio-economic changes and diversification to free itself from its dependence on oil. It is because of these reasons that the interest of companies in the Saudi market is growing rapidly. This was clearly showcased by our webinar and all of its participants. In this webinar we were pleased to welcome the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Belgium and Luxembourg, His Excellency Dr. Khalid Al-Jindan and the Ambassador of Belgium to Saudi Arabia, Her ExcellencyMrs. Dominique Mi neur. Amongs t some of the other important speakers were Mr. Tar iq Al Haidri, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Saudi Chambers, and Mr. René Branders, Cha i rman of t he Federation of Belgian Chambers. The second part of thewebinar consisted of two presentations. The first one, given by Dr. Eiman Al-mutairi, CEO of the National Competitiveness Center and Saudi Business Center, focused on the “Vision 2030” development plan. The second presentation, given by Mr. Khalid Al-Sheddi, Investor Advisory & Relations Executive at the Saudi Ministry, gave an overview of the Mission of the Ministry of Investment in Saudi Arabia (MISA). This mission gave rise to the facilitation of investment procedures and fostered an investment ecosystem as well as a strengthened communication with investors, to help them find their way and succeed in the Saudi market. 17 On 16 December 2021, the Arab-BelgianLuxembourg Chamber of Commerce, in close collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia in Brussels, held a webinar called: “Doing Business with Tunisia”. Thi s webinar represented a unique opportunity for participants to discover the Tunisian market, its export power as well as its untapped potential. It enabled more than 60 participants - be they companies, associations, or businessmen – to get to know more about key investment sectors and opportunities in the Republic. But why focus on Tunisia? In recent years, the country has become an ideal place and high-quality environment for European investments, despite the external difficulties the country has suffered in the past decade. This is because the Tunisian economy is becoming increasingly diversified, resilient, and flexible, as well as more open towards the world. It also relies on high-quality human resources and competitiveness. Moreover, is its economy known for having a good capacity to adapt quickly to circumstances and as a safe hub for companies to invest in. Besides that, is Tunisia also very strategically located, in between the crossroads of Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. It is because of these reasons that the interest of companies in the Tunisian market is growing rapidly. This was clearly showcased by our webinar and all of its participants. In the webinar , we were pleased to welcome the Ambassador of Tunisia in Brussels, His Excellency Mr. Nabil Ammar, and the Ambassador of Belgium in Tunis, His Excellency Mr. Christophe de Bassompierre. Amongst some of the other important speakers were Mr. Mounir Mouakhar, President of the Chamber of WEBINAR | “Doing Businesswith Tunisia” 16 December 2021
