EGYPT : roundtable business lunch with an Egyptian high-level delegation
On Tuesday February the 20th, the ABLCC, in close collaboration with the Embassy of Egypt, was pleased to welcome an Egyptian high-level delegation for a round table business lunch, in the premises of BECI. On the Belgian part, some of the largest Belgian companies were invited to this high skilled networking lunch.
The lunch opened by welcome speeches from Mr. Qaisar Hijazin, Secretary General of ABLCC, and His Excellency Dr. Badr ABDELATTY, Ambassador of Egypt to Belgium, who both reminded the historical and strong relations between Egypt and Belgium. Indeed, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the EU-Egypt Association Agreement that came into force in 2004. On 23 January 2024, the 10th council meeting between the EU and Egypt took place, where both parties intend to elevate their relationship to the level of a Comprehensive and Strategic Partnership
Mr. Hossam Heiba, President of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) delivered a strong presentation about Foreign Direct Investment in Egypt in the past few years, but also exposed the favourable environment that Egypt offers for investment in the future. Then, Mr. Waleid Gamal EL DIEN, Chairman of the General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) showed the benefits to invest in the Zone and the port.
During the lunch, Mr. Alaaeldin EZZ, Secretary General of Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, and Dr. Gehan Saleh, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, also took the floor to expose and emphasize investment opportunities in Egypt.
After the sitting lunch, both Belgian and Egyptian parties enjoyed a walking networking B to B session, where they were able to exchange contacts.
On the next day, the Egyptian delegation and the largest Belgian companies welcomed by the three regions agencies Flanders Investment and Trade agency (FIT), Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) and hub.brussels at the prestigious Maison Errera, with the presence of H.E. Mr. Jan Jambon, the Prime Minister of the Flemish Government.
The visit included in-depth presentations and conversations that illuminated Egypt's investment landscape across a range of industries, with particular emphasis on the country's burgeoning green industry thanks to its advantageous location and highly skilled labor force.
Next May, there will be an important investment conference organized jointly by the EU and Egypt taking place in Egypt. Its aim will be to further deepen Egypt-EU business exchanges to enhance the overall business environment and to encourage European public and private investments to benefit from the available investment potentials in Egypt.
