Roundtable meeting with Iraqi Delegation | 12 July 2024
On Friday 12 July, the Arab-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce was pleased to welcome an Iraqi high-level delegation in its premises for a roundtable meeting with representatives of the International Chamber of Commerce - Iraq (ICC), of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce (FICC), and of the State Council.
As the private sector is getting larger in Irak, Mr. Abdulrazaq ALZUHEERE, President of both ICC and the FICC, expressed his desire to see Belgian companies play a bigger role in the efforts to reconstruct Iraq's economic. He highlighted the favorable environment created to achieve this goal:
- modification of the taxes code
- modification of the Customs Code
- facilitation of financial transfers.
The security in Iraq may be a concern for business but Mr. Alzuheere assured the stability in the country and the drastic rise of the average salary.
Iraq, OPEC’s second producer, holds the world’s fifth-largest proven crude oil reserves and has the 12th largest natural gas reserves in the world. Mr. Qaisar HIJAZIN, Secretary General of the ABLCC, encourages the development of bilateral relations between the two countries. He stressed that this cooperation could be further strengthened by the presence of a Belgian Embassy on the Iraqi territory.
